Best Use of QR Codes I’ve Seen To Date

Tesco/HomePlus had a goal of becoming the #1 grocery chain in South Korea without opening more stores.

  • Solution: Let the store come to the people and turn waiting time into shopping time
  • Execution: Subway virtual stores that allow people to shop from their smartphones. The product picture displays where exactly the same as the displays in stores, except  people scan QR Codes to add items to their mobile cart. The food is then delivered  in the afternoon.
  • Results: Online sales increased 130%. HomePlus is now #1 in online market and a close second offline.

    Great way to increase revenue for a business. Targetting the commuters and creating a ‘on the go system’ also another great example of how marketers understands that we live in the age of the dialogue and esentially it bowls down to them-them-them marketing.

    Wow – that’s awesome! Very innovative use of new media to increase revenue and brand recognition. I’m not surprised that their online sales increased so much since it’s such a novel idea. Not an industry that you typically associate with being very social media-focused. They did an excellent job!
