Thanks to the YouTube bootlegers for letting me relive my Madonna weekend. I went to her last two performances of the Sticky Sweet tour in Madison Square Garden, which were filled with some pleasant surprises. Below are the best moments of the concert:
Britney Spear’s Video Cameo during “Human Nature”
Madonna wilds out during “She’s Not Me”
Madonna Vogues for the first time since Re-invention World Tour (2004)
Madonna “Into the Groove” while jumping rope with Keith Haring
And last but not least, some good old Sarah Palin hatin’. On The Saturday performance Madonna said, “this is what Sarah Palin’s brain sounds like when she’s thinking” while scratching her guitar strings for a good minute.
Last night I had two memorable discoveries on YouTube:
1. I was disturbed by Martha Stewart’s sick and twisted baby food costume video.
2. I noticed a new button under the commenting box labelled Audio Preview. Press it and your comment will be read back to you by a text-to-speech program. The audio conversion sounds a bit robotic and awkward but I go a kick out of it when I wrote the following comment on Martha “go back to prison” Stewart’s video (click on the image below for a video of the audio preview):

Based on a Twitter search for audio preview it looks like this has been around for about 24 hours.
John Mayer has one of the most genuine blogs I have ever seen from an artist or any public figure. Most celebrity blogs are packed with promotional stuff. I can definitely picture some L.A. PR geek going through draft#5 of Jessica Simpson’s, “my top 10 favorite t-shirts” post. John’s blog is different. Authentic. His voice is clear, passionate and honest. His love for music is clearly expressed and readers get a sense of his personality upon reading his post. He talks about songs he’s currently listening to, like Justin Timberlake’s “lovestoned”, which he likes mostly for the last 45 seconds of JT’s kickass vocals. I agree with you on that one JM…Moving. He also has a funny ass parody of the disturbing 2girls1cup video (do not Google this). He calls it 2guys1cup and he shoots it in a pinkberry ice cream shop. I wonder if it’s the one in Chelsea, NYC.
Anyway, John Mayer, your music rocks and I like you even more (if that’s even possible) now that you’ve embraced social media and done it right by creating an authentic blog and letting us take a peak into your personality. I feel like I’ve gotten to know you a little better man. Oh, and if you actually happen to have a PR person writing this for you, she deserves a raise.
Oh snap! There is even a “contact John” link with his email. I’m going to write him a little something something. I’ll post the reply.
Some criticism…Because I am an opinionated punk after all. Johnmayer.com/blog is so blah. I would have rather seen something more authentic-make the blog less about your brand and more about your thoughts and connecting with your listeners.
