I have some exciting news…

On April 1st I will be moving to New York City (from Boston). I’m taking my social media obsession to Undercurrent.

I’m new to the city so if you have any advice (restaurants, shops, spots, and such) hit me up.

How to pitch to bloggers: Advice by Viral Garden’s Mack Collier Comments

Today Mack Collier from the Viral Garden blog offered me some insightful advice on pitching to bloggers . I will like to share with my readers the key points:

1. Start commenting on their blogs prior to pitching

2. Comment on relevant topics

3. “Don’t Force the issue”

4. First thing bloggers do when someone comments on their blog is check their commenter’s blog

5. Become a regular commenter on a blog and you’ll find that blogger to usually begin commenting on your blog and be more likely to link to you, write about your company or client

6. Tier one bloggers tend to get multiple pitches a day so its fair for them to say that they favor collaborating with bloggers who engage with their blog.

The Viral Garden is in my daily lineup of marketing blogs. I am particularly fond of Mack’s corporate blog check up. In my case, his advice has motivated me to engage with my fellow bloggers rather than be an inactive reader or “lurker”.

Just created a Google Groups profile and joined two groups: Social Media Research and Social Press Releases. I’m excite to further explore what Google Groups has to offer. Seems like a great community to share and discuss ideas, files, research and other media. Anyone out there part of Google Groups? I will create a group based on suggestions from readers…

Twitter adds Search function! Comments

It’s a beautiful day for us Twitter maniacs for now we can search Twitter post without leaving the site using their new search box. Before the search box addition, which was added earlier today, I would search Twitter posts using www.terraminds.com/twitter/ and Twitteroll.

What Twitter search means for Social Media Marketers

being able to search Twitter posts by topic means you can follow Twitterers that share your interest or that of your client. This is significant because usually people will follow you back if your posts and links speaks to their interest. This serves as a great network building tool because it allows you to use this micro-platform to deliver your message instantaneously. Let’s say I wanted to increase traffic for www.buyyourfriendadrink.com, a site that allows you to buy your friends drinks online by sending them redeemable codes to their mobile phones. I would do a Twitter search around bars, drinking, liquor, party, and build a network of people interested in drinking. Then I would periodically Twit the BYFAD.com link along with any relevant promotion and BANG! You got instant traffic, conversation=awareness, registration.

What other ways can Twitter be used?
